TV Tower

Relevant to students of: East and West Germany, Life in East Germany.

Opened in 1969, the TV Tower was to be an emblem of the superiority of Communism. It took just four years to build and was modelled on the first artificial Earth Satellite, Sputnik. It gave East Germany two colour TV channels and a second state channel allowing broadcasting opportunities without interference or gaps in signal to the East German people by the state. From the tower, students are treated to breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Berlin from the highest point in the city.
