Lochnagar Crater

The Lochnagar Crater is the largest man-made crater on the Western Front, the result of a mine laid by the British Army's 179th Tunnelling Company. It was the largest of 17 which where exploded on the 1st July 1916, creating a crater of 300 feet across by 70 feet deep. Obliterating the German dug-outs it is now a place of peace and remembrance with several memorials on the site.
