Sample itinerary
This sample itinerary is offered as a guideline. The trip focus, length and itinerary/activities can be tailored to meet your learning objectives.
- Day
Day 1 - Travel to Aachen
Make your way across the English Channel to France and onwards through Belgium into Germany. Check into the hostel, then stroll into Aachen for your first glimpse of its incredible historic properties and architecture. Finish your first day with a meal out at a restaurant.
Day 2 - Deutsche Sprachschule, Aachen guided walking tour
This morning, attend your first of two language classes at the German language school. Divide into smaller groups and participate in a German class tailored to suit your level and curriculum needs. Equipped with new vocabulary, have lunch in Aachen Old Town. With many cafés and eateries, students can put their linguistic skills to the test and sample local, traditional, or modern German cuisine.
This afternoon, it’s time for a guided walking tour of Aachen with your expert TCBC guide. You’ll learn about Aachen's history and its significance in German history. Your tour will include the 8th-century Aachen Cathedral, the Elisenbrunnen fountain, and the incredible Gothic architecture of the Aachener Dom church. The tour can be conducted in English or German.
The final stop on the walking tour is the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum. Housed in Villa Cassalette, a 19th-century city palace, the museum exhibits a spectacular collection of late-Gothic German and Dutch paintings, as well as one of the most renowned displays of medieval sculpture in all of Germany.
Following dinner in town, enjoy a trip to the cinema and the bowling alley.
Day 3 - Phantasialand
Today is an action-packed full-day trip to Phantasialand. This theme park in Brühl is a combination of family and thrill rides and is regularly voted one of the world’s best theme parks. The park includes a nostalgic Historic Berlin zone, as well as Mexico, China Town, and Deep in Africa zones.
On your return, stop for a meal in town before heading back to your accommodation.
Day 4 - Deutsche Sprachschule, visit to Monschau
This morning is the second of your German language lessons. Choose a lesson focus and level to suit your students' abilities.
From here, board the coach for an afternoon excursion to Monschau. Monschau is a small resort town in western Germany, in the Eifel region. Nearly unchanged for 300 years, it features narrow, cobblestone streets and traditional half-timbered houses. Your TCBC guide will lead you on a walking tour centred on the Altstadt (Old Town). To make the most of your afternoon here, take in the Red House, Burg Monschau (Monschau Castle), and the town’s famous Senfmühle Monschau (mustard mill). The mill produces a staggering 19 varieties of mustard and has been run by the same family for over 120 years. As a town catering to tourists, Monschau offers souvenir and gift shops, where you can sample specialties such as Printen, a spiced biscuit, and Monschauer Venn-Brocken, shaped like a peat block to resemble those produced locally to fuel the textile industry.
You could finish with a cruise down the Rursee on an electric boat to see the mountains of the majestic Eifel National Park (April-October only), or visit the Monschau Glass Works to see expert glassblowers transform sand into spectacular glasswork.
Spend the evening at leisure.
Day 5 - Depart Aachen
This morning, enjoy some free time in Aachen. Head out souvenir shopping in Aachen Old Town, or use your language skills one last time ordering coffee and German cakes.
From here you will board the coach to Calais before making the crossing back to the UK. Return to school with incredible memories from your school trip to Aachen.
