- Day
Day 1 - Arrive Tallinn
Fly to Tallinn and transfer to your hotel in the city centre by coach. Take in Lake Ülemiste and catch a glimpse of the historic Old Town as you drive in and relax before your first full day.
Day 2 - Visit to Tallinn University, TalTech Museum
This morning, head to Tallinn University’s School of Digital Technologies and meet staff from the Digital Learning Games department for a Q&A. These incredible creatives and computer scientists run an interdisciplinary programme combining game design with educational sciences and psychology with a goal of “creating innovative games that can make the world a better place.”
After lunch on campus, cross to Tallinn University of Technology and explore its TalTech Museum. Excellent for a digital technology educational trip, the museum looks at how Computer Science education has changed over time, with interactive exhibits including old equipment and machines, and themed exhibitions such as e-waste.
From here, cross to Mektory House for a one-hour guided tour about TalTech, taking in its School of Information Technologies which includes the Department of Computer Systems, Software Science, and Health Technologies. At Mektory House itself, university students work on their own projects. You might see prototypes of self-driving cars and student-made satellites. Add your school to its visitor wall to leave a lasting mark.
A short walk from here is the GameDev Coworking Space. Students can have their first Tallinn IT industry tour here as GameDev Estonia brings together the game developer community, providing workspace alongside networking and job opportunities, conferences, and community events such as DEMO day. Entering the modern premises, students see game developers working on independent gaming projects. The most famous to emerge from here is Haiku, the Robot. On the next floor, see the Ringtail office, which works for clients including Amazon Game Studios and has contributed to the creation of Call of Duty. Students have the opportunity to play new and classic computer games, perhaps even testing that next big hit.
Finish the day with dinner at your hotel.
Day 3 - Tallinn Polytechnic School, Visits to Wise and Pipedrive
This morning, board the coach and head to Tallinn Polytechnic School. You will have around 2 hours to explore the campus, including its museum dedicated to game development.
Lunch on campus.
This afternoon, visit Wise, an incredible business that centres on the idea of "money without borders," enabling the movement of currency internationally. What was once an Estonian start-up now has over 10 million active users and annually moves £100 billion.
Before going to dinner at one of the city's restaurants, there’s time to visit Pipedrive. This garage start-up designing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software has grown into a global unicorn used by over 100,000 companies.
Day 4 - Ülemiste City, PROTO invention factory visit
Meet your TCBC guide at Ülemiste City for a guided walking tour of “Tallinn as a smart city.” Built originally during the Russian Empire, the city now works with FIMA for infrastructure modernisation, has green buildings accredited under the LEED scheme, and even offers smart reusable packaging for takeaways with a QR code deposit system!
This afternoon, head to a former secret submarine facility to visit PROTO Invention Factory. There are more than 20 experience stations for students to explore prototype technologies brought to life using VR. Unique in Europe, PROTO gives students the opportunity to drive the world’s first car, fly in a hot air balloon, and walk on the seabed. You could even have a virtual reality dinner in “mystical Estonian flavours.”
After dinner at the hotel, meet the founder and CEO of Redcurry for a Q&A session. Redcurry is a real estate-backed digital currency that retains its value against inflation. Its partnership with Google and Coinstore provides plenty of topics to discuss.
Day 5 - Tallinn Old Town tour
After learning about cutting-edge technologies and the future of computer science, it's time to explore Tallinn’s Old Town with your expert TCBC guide.
Tallinn is a medieval city complete with walls dating back to the 13th century. Your guide will direct you through cobbled streets: Take in the Middle Age Aida Street, the haunted Lühike Jalg, and visit Piiskopi Street to view both Toompea Castle, which houses the Estonian Parliament, and St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Estonia’s main Russian Orthodox cathedral.
Have a final lunch in the Old Town with free time for that final exploration or souvenir purchase.
From here transfer by coach to the airport and fly home after an incredible trip.
