Our guides

We believe that your guide will be one of, if not the most important element of your tour. In many instances they will be the only representative of the company you meet in person, so it's essential we make the right impression.

We have worked with the majority of our guides year after year, some as many as 20 years! They have vast experience of working with our school groups and are a major asset on tour. We prepare our guides well in advance in terms of what you are studying and what you would like to focus on, so they have a full understanding of your on-tour learning requirements.

Battlefield guides

We have a great team of Battlefield guides, who are carefully selected to escort our tours and who are subject matter experts from a wide variety of backgrounds.

If you ask us to include a guide on your Battlefield trip, we will send you a brief summary of their background and qualifications the moment they are allocated.

Our guides' qualifications include, but are not limited to: NVQ Assessors, Advanced Skill Teachers, degrees in a diverse range of topics including history, law, politics, race & ethnics. Some of our guides (but not all) have military service. You can also request a guide with a particular field of specialism and we'll do our best to match you up.

The majority of our guides are members of various professional organisations including the Guild of Battlefield Guides, The Great War Group, Battlefields Trust, Historical Association, CWGC Speaker’s programme (Kantor Programme) and the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA).

Once allocated, your guide will get in touch to introduce themselves and to discuss the finer details of your itinerary. Teachers find talking to their guide and running through their trip in advance of departure very helpful. It's great to already know your guide before they step onto the coach to lead you and your students on your trip to the Battlefields.

Learning Outside the Classroom

TCBC has been independently audited and holds the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, awarded by the LOtC Council, which provides for the first time a national award combining the essential elements of provision – learning and safety – into one easily recognisable and trusted accreditation scheme. This means that we have passed a robust assessment process of our learning and risk management needs.
