Eco Friendly School Travel: Because School Tours Shouldn’t Cost the Earth

100% Carbon Offsetting on Every Tour—Yes, Really!!

Travel, especially group travel, comes with a carbon footprint. There’s no getting around that. But rather than brushing it off or hiding it in the fine print, we’ve chosen to take full responsibility for it. That’s why we now offset 100% of the carbon emissions from every school tour we operate—including staff travel.

That means when your students hop on a coach in Kraków, or a train to Paris, or even a flight to Iceland, the environmental cost of that journey is being carefully calculated and balanced out through verified, nature-based climate projects. And this isn't just a box-ticking exercise. We do this because we believe young people deserve to experience the world and know they’re not harming it whilst they do.

Why This Matters to Schools and Students

Schools today care deeply about sustainability—and students care even more. They’re growing up in a world where climate change isn’t a distant threat; it’s something they see and hear about every day. So, when they travel with us, we want them to know that it’s possible to explore the world in a way that aligns with the values they’re learning about in the classroom.

Trips become more than sightseeing. They become real-life lessons in environmental responsibility, global citizenship, and the kind of positive action that truly makes a difference.

As we celebrate Earth Day 2025, we take this opportunity to pause and ask: 'What are we doing to help the planet?' We’re proud to have an answer. For us, sustainable travel is not just a statement or a slogan—it’s a commitment we’re putting into action on every single school trip we run.

Partnering with Earthly: Big Impact, Real Stories

We’ve teamed up with Earthly, a brilliant organisation that funds high-impact projects to fight climate change, protect ecosystems, and support local communities around the world.

Here’s a glimpse at where the carbon offset from your trip might be going:

  • Rimba Raya, Borneo – Protecting peatland rainforest (which stores huge amounts of carbon) from being turned into palm oil plantations. Plus, the project supports local jobs, education, and clean water.
  • Mai Ndombe, Congo Basin – Preventing deforestation in one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, while also improving education and healthcare access for local communities.
  • Keo Seima, Cambodia – Preserving tropical forest and supporting the land rights of indigenous people, while protecting endangered species like the black-shanked douc (look it up—they’re adorable).

These projects aren’t just about planting a few trees and hoping for the best. They’re robust, science-backed, and audited—so we know they’re delivering real-world results.

Measuring Our Impact, Openly and Honestly

We track every aspect of our tours that contributes to carbon emissions—from flights and coaches to accommodation and even meals. It’s all calculated using internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. And we don’t keep that data to ourselves—schools can see exactly how their trip’s footprint is calculated.

It’s part of our promise to be transparent, and to help schools use these trips as educational tools in their own right.

More Than Just Offsetting

Offsetting carbon is a huge step, but it’s not the only one we’re taking. We’re making conscious choices at every level of our business:

  • Encouraging travel by train or coach where possible
  • Working with eco-minded suppliers and hotels
  • Minimising paper and plastic use in our operations
  • Promoting walking tours to reduce local transport and increase cultural immersion

The idea is simple: travel responsibly, learn deeply, and leave no trace.

So, What Can Schools Do?

Just by choosing to travel with a company that prioritises sustainability, you’re already making a difference. But Earth Day is also a great time to start a wider conversations in the classroom. Ask your students: “What does sustainable travel mean to them?” or “How can we make this trip not only unforgettable, but also ethical?”

We know that school trips are powerful experiences—they stay with students for years. And when sustainability becomes part of that experience, the impact can last even longer.

This Earth Day, Let’s Travel with Purpose!

Let’s continue to inspire curiosity, widen perspectives, and explore new places—without compromising the planet that makes it all possible.

We’re in it for the long haul, here's to seeing more of the world, in the most responsible way we can!
