Sólheimajökull Glacier

Relevant to students of Physical Landscapes
Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull on the South Coast of Iceland. It is about 8 km long and 2 km wide and is very accessible for hiking. It has great views over the South Coast as it is not surrounded by tall mountains. Visiting this glacier allows students to study glacial processes and climate change effects firsthand. They can observe glacier morphology, crevasses, and moraines, enhancing their understanding of glaciology and the impact of global warming on ice masses.
